Capital Pride Festival (Washington D.C. 1998)

I saw this guy again at the same event the following year. He was holding the same sign-which read, "We are everywhere from California to Delaware". I walked over and spoke to him.
"I got a really great photo of you last year." I said, "It's going to be..."
"Can I have a hug?"
I gave him a hug.
"You got a good picture of me?"
"Yes" I replied, "it's the image I'm going to use on the announcement when I show my Activist project, but it's on my web site now. Do you have Internet access?"
"No. Did you see the parade?"
"Yes"
"Were there any other blind people in it?"
"I don't think so" I answered slowly, "I thought you could see with you left eye," I said as I noticed that he no longer wore a patch over his right eye.
"I lost it about six months ago. Now I'm totally blind. You want to know what happen to my hand?"
"Yes."
"The KKK smashed it with a brick because I was a civil rights activist."
"When was that?"
"about ten years ago. That's how I lost my sight: My hand got infected. You're going to use my picture on an announcement for an art show?"
"When I'm ready to show the work. I'm still working on the project."
"Do you have a card or something so my friend can look at that picture?"
I placed the card in his hand, told him goodbye and left valuing this image far more than I had before.
